Seneca Rocks is a historic unincorporated town named after the Seneca Tribe of Native Americans that used the area for hunting and fishing. The Seneca Rocks Discovery Center is located at the base of the rocks and offers intriguing nature, history, and heritage displays and programs. It also has a small gift shop and other amenities for visitors. Only a few miles away is Spruce Knob which is the highest point in the state at 4,863 feet above sea level. The Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks National Recreation area offers outstanding hiking trails including Seneca Creek Falls, Spruce Knob via Huckleberry trail, or if you’re up for a challenge 15 minutes away is the twenty-six-mile North Fork Mountain trail. Another great attraction is Seneca Caverns which offers cave tours as well as gemstone mining. Harper’s Old Country Store is the oldest general store in the state and is a must see.
